Jincheng hosts 2026 World Environment Day main event

The main event for the 2026 World Environment Day in Shanxi province was launched in Jincheng on June 2 under the theme "Comprehensive Green Transformation: Building a Beautiful China Together". Representatives from various sectors across the province gathered to discuss ecological changes and commit to a green future.

The event featured three major exhibitions: achievements from Shanxi's "14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25)" for ecological protection, outstanding ecological photography, and themed short videos. These exhibits highlighted the province's solid efforts in pollution control and green transformation. 

Storytellers from environmental frontlines, industrial enterprises, the media, and the volunteer service sector shared their personal experiences of ecological transformation, offering insights into Shanxi's environmental progress.

Following the opening ceremony, attendees visited the Baima Temple gangue hill and the Danhe River artificial wetland for on-site inspections. The former industrial site, once plagued by coal waste and dust, has been transformed through years of comprehensive management into a lush, fragrant landscape. The Danhe River artificial wetland has helped restore biodiversity, serving as a successful model for the integrated management of mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands, and sand.

As the host city, Jincheng has made significant strides in improving its ecological environment. Air quality has improved significantly, and the proportion of excellent water bodies at national and provincial monitoring stations has remained at 100 percent for four consecutive years. 

The city has built or renovated 94 parks, gardens, and urban squares, and achieved a 98 percent coverage rate for rural waste management. These ecological accomplishments are increasingly benefiting thousands of households.
