Salt Lake reveals its most captivating charm in early summer.

On May 16, President Xi Jinping paid an inspection visit to Yuncheng Salt Lake. Locals expressed that President Xi Jinping’s concern and requirements for ecological protection in the Yellow River Basin have further strengthened their belief in prioritizing protection and green development. Through the protection and rational utilization of Salt Lake, they can ensure the enduring utilization of Salt Lake's unique cultural heritage and ecological resources.

Yuncheng Salt Lake is the largest sodium sulfate salt lake in China, known as the "national treasure" with a mining history of over 4600 years. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, the Salt Lake production and operation activities focused on economic benefits and lacked ecological protection, resulting in the destruction of the ecological environment of the Lake. On September 30, 2020, all industrial production within the protected area of the Salt Lake has been suspended. In 2021, Yuncheng City started to implement the Salt Lake Ecological Protection and Restoration Plan, and carried out hazard removal, reinforcement, and ecological restoration of Salt Lake embankments. After the renovation of the original transportation road, leveling and reinforcement of embankments, and dredging of border fields and river channels, 98 kilometers of embankment restoration has been fulfilled, 13.14 kilometers of green roads around the lake and 100000 square meters of grassland slope protection have been completed. And the greening projects implemented on the north slope, shore, and wasteland have effectively preserved the natural landscape of Salt Lake and elevated its ecological charm.
