Shanxi publishes urban development plan for 2021-25

The Shanxi Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development recently issued a plan for urban development in Shanxi province during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The province will aim to build more livable, comfortable, eco-friendly, and safer cities in the five years. 

It will change urban development and construction methods, focusing on retention, utilization and upgrading, strengthening repair and transformation, and preventing large-scale demolition and construction.

A housing system with the multi-subject supply and multi-channel guarantee will be established to better solve housing problems for the general public. The cities of Taiyuan and Datong will develop affordable rental housing featuring small apartments and low rents. 

The province plans to comprehensively improve the quality of the living environment in old communities by renovating them, and build communities for all ages by building day care centers and activity venues for senior residents and nurseries and playgrounds for children. 

Relying on natural landscapes, Shanxi will expand urban green corridors and greenways, connect rivers, wetlands and other urban water systems, and develop eco-friendly and leisure tourism agriculture.

Cities across the province will develop a robust green space system and an urban park system. 

The province will improve urban rapid trunk line transportation, daily distribution transportation and eco-friendly non-motorized transportation systems as well as connect said systems. 

In addition, Shanxi will update and repair old and damaged pipe networks, promote the construction and transformation of sewage treatment facilities, promote recycling, and improve the disposal of hazardous waste and treatment of kitchen waste.
