The opening ceremony and summit of the 2022 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum took place in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Sept 1.

Some 300 guests, including senior officials of relevant United Nations agencies and organizations, some foreign diplomatic envoys in China, officials of State ministries and commissions, academicians, experts, and entrepreneurs in the energy sector, attended the opening ceremony and the summit in person.

On behalf of Shanxi provincial authorities, Lin Wu, Party secretary of the province, welcomed the guests and expressed his gratitude to those who have supported the development of Shanxi and the forum.

Lin said at the opening ceremony that since the establishment of the forum in 2016, Shanxi has taken part in the transformation of global energy patterns, continuous breakthroughs in energy technology, and the accelerated evolution of the energy structure.

He hoped that all parties can familiarize themselves with Shanxi's energy revolution and China's plan to peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality, inviting people from home and abroad to invest in Shanxi and share the new opportunities brought about by the energy revolution.

Iceland Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, Israel's Minister of Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg, Guyana's Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat, and UN Assistant Secretary-General Navid Hanif delivered video speeches, expressing that countries will work with Shanxi province and China to promote low-carbon energy development.

At the summit, attendees delivered speeches either on site or through video and discussed energy policies and technology.

Themed around energy, the dual carbon goals, and development, this year's forum is being held on Sept 1-3 both online and offline. It includes the 2022 China (Taiyuan) International Energy Expo, the 12th Global Top 500 New Energy Enterprise Summit, and 13 sub-forums.
